2-in-1 Disc Brake Tool

2-in-1 Disc Brake Tool

One steel tool, both halves of the dragging-brake fix: a cone tip that backs pistons into their bores for pad swaps, and a slotted end that levers a warped rotor straight. At 202 mm it stows in a jersey pocket, and the plated steel wipes clean before it ever touches a pad.

Two common disc-brake problems make a ride miserable, and the fix for both used to mean two tools. Sticky pistons that don't retract leave the pad dragging the rotor. A rotor that's slightly out of true rubs the pads on every revolution. The 2-in-1 Disc Brake Tool collapses both fixes into one piece of steel: a conical pad-and-piston spreader on one end, a rotor-truing slot on the other.

The conical tip slides between the pads inside a caliper and presses the pistons back into their bores, which is the move you need every time a fresh pad swap pushes you past the worn-pad clearance line. The slot on the other end engages a warped rotor at multiple angles and bends it back toward true. If you've never sliced your thumb on a rotor edge while truing one bare-handed, the slot saves you that lesson.

The steel-on-steel construction wipes clean with a shop rag, which matters on a tool that touches brake pads. Disc pad contamination from oil or grease is one of the most common ways to kill a pad's useful life; a tool you can actually keep clean is the right tool for the job.

Built in Zreče, Slovenia

Unior has been forging hand tools in Zreče since 1919, and is the official technical partner of multiple World Tour and downhill teams. Bike Perfect's overview puts the brand position cleanly: "Unior doesn't quite have the name recognition of Park or Pedros... they are as good if not better in quality, and they have some clever solutions." The 2-in-1 is one of those clever solutions. We don't know of many other manufacturers that combine both functions into one tool; the 2-in-1 does, and rides in a jersey pocket while it does. The 1757/2DP carries Unior's lifetime warranty.

Pro tip from our mechanics

Most disc-brake noise traces to one of three causes: a contaminated pad, a misaligned caliper, or a rotor that's slipped out of true. The 2-in-1 handles two of those directly. For caliper alignment, you'll want the wheel reseated in the dropouts and the caliper bolts loosened to centering position before squeezing the lever and re-tightening. Our disc-brake-rub guide walks through the call order: what to check first, what tools make each step easier, and where the 2-in-1's two functions both come into play: Fix disc brake rub →

From the press

Disc-brake piston spreaders and rotor truing tools which slide past the braking surface are incredibly similar in shape, so Unior combines them into one.
