The bottom bracket is an enigma. It’s vital to the proper function of the bike yet it’s so easily overlooked. It’s tucked out of the way, hidden behind crank arms and chain rings, yet it receives an enormous amount of abuse. It’s there taking all the impacts from road and trail obstacles, it’s catching the spray off the front tire in the rain, it acts as a reservoir for all the spilled sweat and hydration mix. Eventually something has to give. Seals only seal for so long, ultimately letting all that over spray and drink mix into those precious bearings.
