Elvedes BB cups (and a handful of other 47.8 mm OD 12-notch external BBs) sit between the dominant 16-notch Shimano-pattern interface and the smaller 12-notch Praxis M30 (~46.3 mm). The 48 mm 12-notch isn't a Shimano-compatible size, isn't a Praxis-compatible size, and skates across both other-tool patterns. This is the dedicated wrench for the 47.8 mm 12-notch interface.

Measure the BB cup OD with calipers across the outer notch face. If the reading is 47.8 mm and the cup shows 12 notches around the perimeter, this is the wrench.

How it's used

Mount the wrench over the BB cup so all 12 notches mesh fully. Press home before applying torque; partial seating skips and rounds. The 1/2″ square drive on the body fits a torque wrench or ratchet for the install step where matching the manufacturer's torque spec matters.

Compatibility

  • Elvedes external BBs with 12-notch pattern at 47.8 mm OD
  • Other 12-notch external BBs in the same OD range
  • Not compatible with Praxis M30 (46.3 mm OD) or Shimano-pattern 16-notch BBs

Specs

  • Material: premium flex plus carbon steel
  • Surface finish: chrome-plated to ISO 1456:2009
  • Notch pattern: 12-notch, sized for ~47.8 mm OD cups
  • Drive interface: 1/2″ square on the body for torque wrench or 1/2″ ratchet

Built in Zreče

Unior has been forging hand tools in Zreče since 1919, and is the official technical partner of multiple World Tour and downhill teams. The 12-notch 48 mm wrench is one of those tools that's only useful when a specific cup interface lands on the bench, but when it does there's no improvising; only the right notch pattern at the right diameter releases the cup cleanly.

Pro tip from our mechanics

Before reaching for any 12-notch wrench, measure the cup OD with calipers across the notch face. The difference between the 46.3 mm Praxis interface and the 47.8 mm Elvedes interface is small but real, and the wrong tool will skate. Two seconds of measurement saves a rounded cup.
