A stainless steel bench-top cover is the chemical-resistance overlay for shops that started with a wood bench and outgrew the chemical-exposure limit. The Unior 990TW-TR is the cover sized for the 6-foot Unior wood bench top; bonds over the existing wood surface, adds heat resistance to 100 °C, and brings the chemical resistance the wood alone can’t provide.
What it does
The 990TW-TR is a cover, not a standalone work surface. It needs a wood (or other rigid) bench top underneath to act as the structural surface; the cover itself is the chemical-and-heat barrier overlay.
Once bonded to the bench top, the cover:
- Resists solvent, hydraulic fluid, brake fluid, parts cleaner, and oil without staining.
- Withstands temperatures up to 100 °C; sufficient for most workshop hot-work and quench tasks.
- Stays non-porous, so dirt and oil don’t penetrate the surface.
- Cleans with a damp cloth; no scrubbing or chemical re-application required.
When to add the cover
Three workshop scenarios where the cover pays back:
- Adding suspension service to a previously dry workshop. The wood bench can’t take the parts-cleaner runoff; the cover seals the surface against the new workflow.
- Adding hydraulic-brake-bleed service. Brake fluid stains the wood top permanently; the cover prevents it.
- Migrating to a wetter service catalog generally. Shops that historically ran dry-mechanical work and are adding fluid-heavy services use the cover as the retrofit overlay rather than replacing the bench top entirely.
For shops running mostly mechanical work and no fluid-heavy service, the wood top (the 990TW) stays as the bench surface indefinitely.
Compatibility
The 990TW-TR is sized for the 6-foot (2 m) Unior wood bench top; the 990TW used in the 2600A Professional Mechanic Workbench and as the base layer of the 2600C Master Workbench configuration. The cover bonds to the wood top via the standard adhesive process; the install is a retrofit, not a tear-down-and-rebuild.
Built in Zreče, Slovenia
Unior has been forging hand tools in Zreče, Slovenia, since 1919, and is the official technical partner of multiple World Tour and downhill teams. The 990TW-TR is the same in-house stainless overlay that ships pre-bonded on the 2600C Master Workbench bench top; the chemical-resistant surface that lets the bench survive a decade of suspension and brake-bleed work without staining.
Pro tip from our mechanics
The cover is a cover, not a bench. Buying it as a standalone work surface (sitting on a sawhorse or a flat surface) doesn’t work; the underlying wood top is what gives the cover its load-bearing capacity. Specify the cover when the bench is already in the shop, not before the bench is bought.
